RISEN

Artist: Lori Butler

This is an image inspired by the campaign images for Barrack Obama. Some artists on the internet even went so far as to refer to our future president as a “savior” or “messiah.” I thought it was time that Jesus’ image take its rightful place above those words. This portrait of Jesus is the first that I have ever painted. It represents the iconic image of Christ and states in no uncertain terms that HE has risen again.

KAIROS

Artist: Lori Butler

Kairos, is a moment of time loaded with opportunity. It is a time God brings us to where choice and change debuts. (Mark 1:14-15)

Lori’s representation of the iconic 1963 image of John Jr. saluting his father’s casket reminds of many things. Perhaps we can find a reminder the Kingdom is at hand—if we will set our eyes to see. Heavenly Father is present in every moment and in significant moments Father sets before us a way to live as it is in heaven if we will but repent (think differently) and believe (live different) the Good News..

Our Father who is in heaven, may we honor your authority in our lives. May we choose in the kairos moments of this day, to live out on earth Your values just as King Jesus demonstrated, just as it is done in heaven!

SHIFT

Artist: Lori Butler

Martin Luther King, Jr. was a person who helped our nation move from the violence of the Civil Rights Movement to a nonviolent effort for freedom and equality. He was an inspiration for a national SHIFT from prejudice to justice. His work was a catalyst for tenets of peace and love that were introduced by Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount. This image was painted the Sunday before the holiday that celebrates his birth. “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

TITHE

Artist: Lori Butler

This piece was created as an illustration or allegory for the act of tithing 10% back to the Lord. The cherry pie represents the incredible blessing that God has given us and continues to give us each and every day. The missing slice is the portion allotted to our Father, leaving us with an enticing and delicious portion that is more than enough to cover our needs. “God wants a piece of my pie.”

PROMISE

Artist: Lori Butler

The image of the virgin Mary holding Jesus’ dead body on her lap is commonly known as the Pieta. This is a portrait of the face of Mary as created by Michelangelo during the Italian Renaissance. I chose this image because of the PROMISE that was kept by our Savior when he died upon the cross.

SENT

Artist: Lori Butler

As disciples of Christ we are sent to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit .” (Matthew 28:19). Our church is SENT to care for others in need, in our city and in our world. The Hawaiian shirt is an allegory for the typical modern Christian.

SHINE

Artist: Lori Butler

This image was painted on the Sunday just previous to Veterans day. It has been dedicated to the several War veterans in our body and in appreciation of the several thousands currently fighting in Iraq in Afghanistan. The word “SHINE” comes from Matthew 5:14-16. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

PRAY

Artist: Lori Butler

The original title of this iconic ad for RCA Records is “His Master’s Voice”. It inspired me to shift from talking to listening to God’s word. The dog is a symbol of a person in the true act of praying, he is listening to his MASTER, as we all should.
