The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.
Big View: Person of Peace
Small View: Permanent Relationships – Preparation – Perception – Proclamation
Observation: What is grabbing my attention most in this story is how John the Baptist is simply helping his friends see where Jesus is. He didn’t feel the pressure to do any more than to point them to Jesus. Jesus is already at work in my friends lives. Jesus is already saying, “come and see.”
Action: This week as I am present to my friends, I am listening to their story to see how it already points to Jesus. If I am invited to, I will share my story to help point to Jesus.
observation:The great thing here, as pointed out by our anonymous leader who is captured by the simplicity example of John is, it is just that real and natural. So many have been programed to think they have to all the work. John shows us we can just relax watch where our friends are already seeing Jesus in their lives. If we do that most of what we need to do is just affirm who it is they are seeing is indeed the One worth following.
action: I am going to watch for where a friend is seeing You in their life today. I am going to point it out and affirm their good instinct to follow Your invitation, “Come and see.”
