Luke 10:1-7 – Ash Wednesday

March 1, 2017 by Church Without Shoes

10 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.
5 “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. 7 Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

Big View: Person of Peace
Small View: Power – Presence – Perception

Observation: I perceive a person who is open is someone who likes you. There is a sense of peace, a good vibe. I also observe that being invited to dinner and not bouncing around is about being present to this person. Lastly, I observe that healing people who are sick and seeing God’s power released is important. Then, I actually have something to proclaim and can talk to them about God

Action: This Lent season, I am going to pay extra close attention to people who need healing in my everyday life and pray for them to see God’s power released into their lives.

Observation: I hear that there is much work to be done. Be attentive to those around me and don’t try to do it on my own. Have a battle buddy.
Action: I am going to bring this up to my battle buddy for us to identify a person of peace in our lives.

Observation: I know people of peace, but I also know a few people of turmoil, people who are certainly not open to hearing God’s word. I can intercede (i.e., pray) for these people, even if they don’t know I’m doing it.

Action: I will make a regular day each week (Wednesday is a good day) to pray for these people. We all have turmoil but God’s peace in the midst of it is a blessing. I will share that, even if I have to do it covertly.

    1. This won’t be easy. Do you know the plans wolves have for lambs?
    2. Go anyway. God Himself has been at work before you get out the door.

Great observations. I see that the Lord called and equipped 72 to do

Observation:The word that is catching my attention this morning is, “Go!” It even has an exclamation point after it for emphasis. There are plenty of people out there that want/need to hear my Jesus story, but I won’t meet any of them unless I go!

Response: I have got into an unhealthy work pattern these last few months that allows almost no room for what matters – relationship. People. I have cut back on some work opportunities and will spend this season of Lent pruning things out of my life that distract me and keep me from “Going” and sharing my story with persons of peace that God places in my path.
