Food That Endures To Eternal Life

March 10, 2013 by Church Without Shoes

GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE GOSPEL

John 6:26-29 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

PERCEPTION // What I see/hear God saying/doing:
Father, thank You for the poignant reminder that what keeps me going, what truly “feeds” every part of my life, AND what produces kingdom effectiveness really is my relationship with You.

PLAN // What I am going to do about it:
I am aware of how I feel after a meal and how different foods affect me. So today, my focus will be to think about two things; how I “feel” when I spend time in God’s Presence, and how I am allowing His Presence to affect me throughout the day.

PRAYER // Seal the deal:
Jesus, use this simple exercise to increase my capacity for more of You and the awareness of Your sweet Spirit in my life. Amen.

This just sent me into complete brokenness. I realized I have no problem in believing in Jesus for myself because I have been choosing to believe and eat his food and practice disciplines that bring me closer to him. And i have seen so much fruit, physical and emotional healing and learning and hearing God’s voice. But, where I struggle and doubt is with the suffering of others. I think of my broken father who has cut me out of his life which includes my little sister too. I’ve been serving at a healing room and people who believe are coming with illness and pain and suffering beyond what I can bear, but He shows up every time and changes everything! I was overwhelmed today by this suffering and bringing it to him and he reminded me that he is suffering too, that he calls me to share it with him. Romans 8:17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. My heart is still broken, be he brings me his peace. Thank you, Jesus.

Many times in my life my healing has come in the midst of my suffering or as a direct result of it. The fact that the people coming to the healing room have stepped out in faith to go there is part of their healing. I think we often have our own narrow mindedness about healing and what it should look like – when my mom was first diagnosed I prayed for her healing (in my mind – remove the cancer from her) as she continued to get sick I prayed for God’s will for her and that still he “heal” her or end her suffering; it wasn’t until her last weeks that I realized by physically dying she would be healed. Your presence in the healing room is such a gift to those who enter because not only are you sharing Jesus’ suffering but also the suffering of his people.
